As the curtains open and the melodies of our heritage fill the concert hall, we embrace the present and look forward to a bright future. For the past 66 years, the American Zagreb Junior Tamburizans have proudly celebrated Croatian culture, allowing cherished the opportunity to learn the traditions and customs unique to Croatia's diverse regions, presenting audiences with glimpses of village life from a Slavonian wheat harvest to a wedding celebration in Podravina, or the harmony of klapa from a Dalmatian village by the sea. Each performance resonates with those who cherish their Croatian heritage or have been fortunate to visit.
Watching our youngest performers blossom is a privilege. The timid five-year-old grows into a confident seven-year-old, playing the tambura with the same melodies beloved by their grandparents. As juniors mature into seniors, their friendships deepen, and they gain treasured experiences, including the chance to travel across the United State and to Croatia, strengthening their bond with fellow diaspora members. Performing in Croatia is often one of the most cherished memories for our tamburitzans, a pride that connects generations.
Our authentic nošnje (costumes) and handmade tamburas (instruments) are essential to each performance, and we are grateful to our dedicated teaching staff who instill a love of Croatian culture in every child. Our board of directors and parent members are the backbone of our organization, ensuring the continuity of our ensemble of over fifty performers. Their commitment and camaraderie have been a mainstay for over 60 years, building a strong foundation where new and long-standing families come together to form an enduring community.
Our mission to nurture Croatian culture in our children remains as steadfast as ever, supported by the invaluable contributions of our community. Every donation, whether monetary, an instrument, a costume, or participation in fundraising events, sustains our organization and helps us provide music and dance instruction to youth from second grade and beyond. For those who wish to honor a loved one, we welcome contributions to establish a scholarship fund in their name, assisting our students with lesson costs.
As a 501(c)(3) organization is pleased to accept online donations, which will be allocated to operational needs, instruments, costumes, and travel expenses. Each child on stage echoes our gratitude for your generosity, keeping the spirit of Croatia alive for future generations.
